Star comedian swoops into Houston, goes on a selfie binge and helps raise $1.95 million for local families

The 411: Laughter and more laughter filled the hotel ballroom as comedian Jeff Foxworthy rode the humor wave that in part inspired the bountiful proceeds of $1.95 million. Foxworthy not only entertained from the stage, he also took the opportunity to visit with each of the Boys and Girls Country residents attending and to join in the selfies.
Applause, applause for co-chairs Mark Mey and Jeremy Thigpen, who said, "We fulfill a critical need for Houston area families who are in crisis and struggling because of things like addiction, job loss or a death in the family."
A big portion of support was due in part to the honorees, the much-respected and admired Yvonne and Walter Johnson, founder of Amegy Bank. Major support for the evening came from Sim-Tex L.P., Gatewood Family Foundation, The Hildebrand Foundation, The Loyd Charitable Foundation, National Oilwell Varco, Doug Pitcock and Trenegy.
