Three hundred guests, $300,000 raised for Houston Hospice —it was a record evening Wednesday when Kelli and Eddy Blanton chaired the 13th annual Laura Lee Blanton Community Spirit Award Dinner at River Oaks Country Club.
The award was named in honor and memory of Eddy's late mother.
Dr. Thomas Burke, chairman of the Houston Hospice board, presented the community spirit award to civic leaders and philanthropists Maureen and Jim Hackett. The couple received a standing ovation as they were recognized for their leadership, their commitment to a range of charitable cuases and their hands-on support of a variety of organizations.
On hand to salute the Hacketts were Ginger and Jack Blanton, Harriet and Joe Foster, Hospice president and CEO Jim Faucett, Sally and Bob Thomas, Rose Cullen, Nancy Ruez, Margaret Williams, Sarita and Bob Hixon and Ann and Stuart James.
