Socialite Behind Bars
Best Dressed socialite trades designer threads for prison garb and all we can say is, "Who knew?"
When the Houston Easter Seals Society tapped jewelry designer Katherine Le as one of its honorees at the annual Hats Off to Mothers luncheon last year, organizers probably never expected to find the attractive socialite trading in her designer threads for "orange is the new black."
Likewise, we doubt that the Houston Chronicle had any clue as to the future of its 2010 Best Dressed honoree now being held in Harris County Jail accused, according to a KTRK Channel 13 report, of money laundering involving illegal gambling.
Certainly, CultureMap had no inkling of any possible wrong-doing when it tapped the well-dressed Le as a Style File subject in 2012.
According to Harris County District Attorney's office Le, her husband, Hao Nguyen, and four others have been accused of operating game rooms in Harris County. According to court documents, "they did unlawfully, pursuant to a single scheme and continuing course of conduct, knowingly acquire, maintain an interest in, and conceal and possess and transport and receive funds of the value of at least $300,000."
All six are being held in Harris County Jail on bond for $1 million each.
Channel 13 reports, "The arrests came Tuesday, just days after court documents say her and her husband's divorce was finalized."
Neiman Marcus has carried her jewelry designs that go under the label Ava Le. She was recently spotted at New York Fashion Week, where took in the Derek Lam and Rachel Zoe shows, among others.
