Party animals, traveling in a Flock, take over Houston Zoo
Who knew that 850 birds, representing 230 species, inhabit the Houston Zoo? Probably no one at Thursday night's "Flock of Seagulls" young professionals party at the zoo's duck lake had ever focused on that bit of animal minutiae.
But after the party, that was replete with wandering baby flamingos, duck feedings and tours of the tropical bird house, we bet that more than a few of the 250 partygoers were much more avian-friendly.
Guests sipped on Saint Arnold's brews and 42 Below Vodka cocktails, snacked on small bites from Sushi Raku and rocked '80s style to the beats of DJ Ace Boon Coon. As a surprise treat before lights out, Domino's Pizza delivery arrived.
The focus was only partially on the birds on this evening because much of the attention went to the guests themselves, who enthusiastically embraced the '80s theme. The dress was colorful, kicky and wicked.
Among those boldly stepping out were Valerie Palmquist, Jeff Shell, Carla and Alex Martinez, Gloria Luna and Jesse Bounds, Katherine Orellana, Ted Bowen, Beth Bryant, Maidie Ryan, Jennifer LeGrand, Denise Furlough and David Cordua in his chef's gear as he was soon on his way back to the new Americas in River Oaks Shopping Center.
