Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market is already revving up for the holidays — with $17.8 million visions
There was heightened excitement among the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market team for the market launch party at The Capital Grille. Author Pamela Triolo, who championed the market in her mystery novel Death Without Cause, was in the mix and selling her books at a rapid clip.
Market chair Cynthia Brown joined the steak house's managing partner Steve Joest and sales manager Tia Valion in welcoming the holiday-minded contingent that is hard at work organizing the annual fete that runs Nov. 7 to 10 at Reliant Center. In her book, Triolo describes the market as “Houston’s answer to Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls.”
Indeed, the 2012 market hosted 104,836 visits and brought in almost $17.8 million in sales.
The Capital Grille got the fundraising rolling early by presenting a check for $1,500 to Houston Ballet's Patsy Chapman, the funds raised from a month-long promotion in which $5 from every Wagyu beef strip or seared sea bass entree went to the ballet.
Among the merry elves helping make the Nutcracker Market a reality were Philamena Baird, Evelyn Leightman, Susan Lehman, Joella Mach, Denise and Sam Malone, Sharon Erskine, Gaylon Gullquist, Patti Murphy, Rachel Regan, Mary Alice Parmet, Kari Parson, Wendy Burks and Karen Hartnett.
