Off the field, Astros and wives stir up interest in Black Ties & Baseball Capsgala
Whether it's a winning season or not on the playing field, it's gala season each August for the Astros Wives, who put an unfortunate team record behind them on Sunday in order to stir up interest in the Aug. 18 Black Ties & Baseball Caps gala benefiting the Houston Area Women's Center.
Chairs of the gala that takes place on the floor of Minute Maid Park Summer Barnes and Mary Catherine Melancon were at the helm at Brenner's Steakhouse on the Bayou for the party celebrating underwriters and major sponsors. More than a few of the team members and their wives and coaching staff and wives turned out for the casual early evening affair hosted by Landry's owner Tilman Fertitta and wife Paige with Brenner's GM Chris Shaw and event coordinator Rachel Price overseeing details.
The chairwomen's husbands — Astros Clint Barmes and Mark Melancon — were among the team members on site. Auction Chair Michelle Quintero brought along her husband, Astros catcher Humberto Quintero, who found a perch where he could rest his recuperating ankle. Quintero is on the disabled list after a collison with Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Ryan Roberts at home plate.
Among notables on hand were Chris Johnson, Jason Castro and fiancee Maris Pearlman, Morgan and Jeff Keppinger, J.A. Happ with Morgan Cawley, Pamela and Jason Michaels, Hunter Pence with Lindsey Slott, bullpen coach Jamie Quirk and Astros manager Brad Mills.
On the sponsor side, sipping cool libations and sampling Brenner's party fare on this early evening were Patricia and Randall Swearingen, Janis and David Roberts, Cindy and Dennis Laviage, David Huntington, Mary Margaret and Sean McGowan, Gayle and Robert Rosales, Stephen Lewis and Allison Triarsi and Trish and Gregg Perkin.
