Oh, how we love looking at the way other people live, our curiosity sated with home tours, design magazines and now a glam coffee table book that takes us into the private realms of renowned designers from across the country — Designers at Home: Personal Reflections on Stylish Living.
The book's author, Ronda Rice Carman, was the toast of a recent cocktail party/book signing in the Ken Kehoe & Co. showroom at the Houston Design Center. It was a homecoming for the native Houstonian, who was greeted by long-time friends and family as well as art and design followers.
How do designers such as Rose Tarlow, Bunny Williams and Ashley Hicks bring their professional philosophies into their own homes? Carman has the answers in her book and entertained the design flock with insights garnered from visiting with the likes of Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Hutton Wilkinson. So popular, the book has gone into its second printing after only one month on the shelves.
With that, Carman, who lives with her husband in Glasgow, Scotland, has decided to remain in the states this summer promoting her book. She'll call Sugar Land, where her parents live, home base.
It was an adoring gathering as the University of Houston graduate is widely known for her award-winning blog "All the Best: A Passport to Stylish Living." She also writes for New York Social Diary and the Huffington Post.
Among her fans filling the showroom were host Ken Kehoe, Agnes Petit, Colmet Daage, Cory Roeder, April West, Eric Nevil, Micqui McGowen, Mary Nurre, Lucinda Loya, Rachel Simon, Rusty Arena and Katy and Stanton Scott.
