Oprah delivers a strong message to Girls in Houston — with tea power behind it
What:Girls Inc. of Greater Houston's annual "Strong, Smart and Bold" luncheon.
Where: The Royal Sonesta Hotel.
The 411: CenterPoint Energy's June Deadrick chaired and designer Chloe Dao served as honorary chair of the annual luncheon that had a turnout of close to 500 guests and raised $150,000 for the non-profit.
The program included an inspiring video message from Oprah Winfrey, who recently announced that proceeds from her new Teavana Oprah Chai Tea (on sale at Starbucks and Teavana stores) will benefit Girls Inc. The luncheon was led by KHOU Channel 11 Great Day Houston host Deborah Duncan, who introduced guest speaker and author Katherine Center. H-E-B was announced as recipient of the Corporate Vision Award and the Vanguard Award was presented to the Links Texas Spring Cypress chapter.
Who: Filling the hotel ballroom were Melanie Gray, Mandy Kao, Irene Helsinger, Kristi Thibaut, Brian Ching, Misti Pace-Kahl, Candice Wells, Marcie Zlotnik, Cyndy Garza Roberts and Maria Zerr.
