The 411: For many in the diverse gathering, the evening celebrating Houston's riches in various cultures, ethnicities and religions inspired not only an open-arm camaraderie but also a celebration of origins expressed in national dress. Headlining the evening were chairs Dina Al Sowayel and Tony Chase, Molly and Jim Crownover and Jeri and Marc Shapiro with Marie and Vijay Goradia serving as honorary chairs.
The fundraiser honored Anne and Dr. John Mendelsohn, the Tapestry Award presented to them by Andrea White. Board chairman Charles Foster welcomed the 500 guests, who were entertained by a variety of musical performances presented by Kenneth Gayle Productions, AMP'D Strings Quartet and Rodney Waters. KHOU Channel 11 news anchor Len Cannon served as emcee.
Who: Linda Gale and former Gov. Mark White, Jan Duncan, Lily Foster, Margaret Alkek Williams and Jim Daniel, Shaista and Shahzad Bashir, Ginger Blanton, Bill and Jo Breetz, Fred Zeidman, Arthur Schechter, Bill King, Regina Rogers, Ceron and Todd Fiscus, whose Todd Events handled ballroom decor.
