11 "Charlie's Angels" give a heavenly touch to Mission of Yahweh benefit evening
Angels of every order — from the earth-bound to the spiritually-elevated to the TV screen — populated the River Oaks Country Club ballroom for the Mission of Yahweh gala that was aptly themed "A Heavenly Evening."
Tops in the celestial pecking order on this night were honorees Rose Cullen, Mary Gracely and Martha Turner, each of whom through personal philanthropy and community leadership has surely earned entry to the pearly gates.
Truly of the spiritual world, the Rev. Godfrey Hubert and Foundry United Methodist Church received honors as community honoree. Houston's resident angel of worthy causes Warner Roberts introduced those receiving special recognition.
Houston Texans vice chairman and COO Cal McNair and wife Hannah served as honorary chairs of the evening that was chaired by dedicated Mission of Yahweh supporter Charlie Hartland and "his angels." Joining him at the benefit helm were Abigail Hartland, Adele Hartland, Amber Hartland, Bethany Hartland, Claudine Hendee Hartland, Joanna Hartland, Monica Hartland, Sarah Hartland, Rebekah Hartland, Susan Olmstead and Jill Po.
KTRK Channel 13 news anchor Melanie Lawson emceed the evening that had a few heavenly surprises including a $100,000 gift from Linda and Larry Martin and the Larry J. Martin Family Foundation and a video message from original Charlie's Angel and native Houstonian Jaclyn Smith. In another happy surprise, the strand of pearls donated by Barbara Bush raised $11,000 in the live auction.
Among the 350 guests supporting women in crisis were John Blaisdell, Brad Marks, Bill King, Pam Lockard, Scott Evans, Phyllis Williams, Trini Mendenhall-Sosa and Frank Sosa, Nancy Marcus Golden, Harry Cullen, Janice and Bob McNair, Tony Gracely, Glenn Bauguss and Trey Gillen.
