Latin Women's Initiative 10th anniversary luncheon a fashion frolic forva-va-voom sellout crowd
Hands down, the Latin Women's Initiative annual fashion bash reigns as the most colorful, most energized fundraising luncheon of the year with its vibrant gathering of ladies and gents, its colorful bazaar and the rollicking Latin-infused catwalk presentation. The 10th anniversary event at the Hotel InterContinental proved that you can keep the momentum going for a decade.
The sellout crowd of 600 raised more than $250,000 for six charities including Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. That school's leader, the popular Rev. T.J. Martinez served as luncheon emcee and roused the ballroom with news that the school would be able to double its enrollment in the fall to some 400 students.
Joining him in the program were luncheon chair Cyndy Garza Roberts and LWI president Ana Matamoros, who recognized past luncheon chairs who had helped continue the ride of success. Taking bows were Miriam Sera, Patty Herrera, Trini Mendenhall Sosa and Carmen Maria Lechin. Other previous chairs were unable to attend.
Highlight of the luncheon was the return of designers who had presented in previous years. Lydia Lavin, Jesus Ibarra & Bertholdo, Pineda Covalin and Alberto Rodriguez each presented brilliant vignettes in a 20-minute runway presentation that stirred rounds of applause.
The partying luncheon crowd included Leticia Fallick, Winell Herron, Frank Sosa, Laura Jaramillo, Fady Armanious, Ellie Francisco, Ileana Trevino, Sofia Adrogué, Soraya McClelland, Rosana Morales, Joanna Parra and Marie Jose del Torro.
