Lawyers in black-tie, UH president in red: 37th annual law center gala celebrates successful alumni
Public policy columnist, attorney and former Mayor of Kemah, Bill King, class of 1978, reigned as chair of the University of Houston Law Center gala that attracted more than 525 legal eagles and their significant others and raised $430,000 for the center.
The Hilton Americas-Houston ballroom was setting for the law school's 37th annual gala and auction with the theme "Passport Around the World" that found guests including UH System chancellor and UH president Renu Khator and husband Suresh Khator strolling a landscape of wonders of the world. Stonehenge, Machu Pichu, the Roman Coliseum and the Taj Mahal were among the decorative touches.
Cynthia Mabry, class of 2010, chaired the ever-popular auction that included vast selections from live and silent offerings.
The evening honored Bracewell Giuliani attorneyJarvis Hollingsworth, class of 1993, for his long-term support of the university and of the law center.
The party crowd included UH Law Center Interim Dean Richard Alderman and wife Janie, Melinda and Sam Stubbs, Andrea Hollingsworth, John Mixon, Neda Ladjevardian, Raymond Nimmer, Patricia and Jim Perdue Sr. and Suzie and Alvin Zimmerman.
