Savvy Shopping
Designer clothes from most fashionable River Oaks closets rake in big bucks for Salvation Army
Thrift shoppers with a certain discretionary income and a load of good taste were in seventh heaven at the Salvation Army's "Reflections on Style" luncheon at River Oaks Country Club.
Fashionistas had emptied their closets of designer threads by Chanel, Escada,Valentino and the like — some gently-worn, some still bearing original sales tags — and donated their fashion gems for the ultimate re-sale shopping opp. The bargains were delicious.
Members of the Salvation Army Auxiliary had been collecting the ball gowns, furs, handbags and shoes for several months from some of the richest closets in town. Then with the aid of fashion experts including Lenny Matuszewski, Tamara Klosz Bonar and Jeanne Ruberti, assembled the popular "Chic Boutique" and the runway fashion show. By the end of the day $665,000 had been raised.
Applause, applause for luncheon chair Gina Saour and "Chic Boutique" chairs Kathryn King Coleman and Rhonda Jones. After-Sale chairs Deborah Dunkam and Sally Dwyer picked up the day's leftovers and organized them for a later sale.
Among those donating fashion items, buying fashion items and cheering the day's honoree, Jan Duncan, were Linda McReynolds, Lilly Andress, Carol Sharpe, Beth Early, Diane Lokey Farb, Brenda DeVore, Tena Lundquist Faust, Tama Lundquist, Susan Hansen, Vicki West, Joanne King Herring and many more.
