A psychiatric hospital to be proud of: Heavy-hitters celebrate new $53 millionMenninger Clinic
Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, an advocate for brain research funding and son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, shared his passion with a select luncheon gathering of notables who gathered for a first-look at the new Menninger Clinic.
The six-building psychiatric hospital is located on 50 acres of greenery and trees, 10 minutes from the Texas Medical Center. There, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Menninger Clinic president and CEO Ian Aitken joined Kennedy in remarks saluting the opening. The $53 million facility is positioned to become a premier center for mental health research and education.
Receiving generous applause for their leadership were two members of the clinic's founding family — Dr. Roy Menningerand Dr. Walt Menninger.
