Historic oil building transforms into a happening music spot — all to honor Da Camera pioneer
What:Da Camera Gala.
Where: The historic Gulf Oil Building, now the formal lobby of JPMorgan Chase at 712 Main.
The 411: Elaine and Marvy Finger chaired the black-tie evening that honored Da Camera artistic and general director Sarah Rothenberg, who has been credited with transforming the state of music with her original programming of blending music with other art forms. In honor of Rothenburg and her two decades with Da Camera, her long-time friend and fellow pianist Pedja Muzijevic came in from New York for the occasion.
As might have been expected, the evening was filled with music including jazz performances during the cocktail hour, chamber music selections by Da Camera's Young Artist Program interspersed between dinner courses, Muzijevic's solo piano performance and the dance band Doppelganger.
Guests were wined and dined (six courses!) by Karen Lerner and her A Fare Extraordinaire team.
Who: Heidi and David Gerger, Cece and Mack Fowler, Nancy and Walter Bratic, Jill and Dunham Jewett, Ann and Karl Stern, Nanette and Jerry Finger, Diana and Russell Hawkins, Carrie and Al Pepi, Nathalie and Charles Roff and Dr. Mary Shinn and Richard Andrassy.
