Singing for their supper nets $300,000 for University of Houston's Moores School of Music
Any doubts that the University of Houston Moores School of Music is filled with anything less than big talent were certainly put to rest during the Moores Society "Up, Up & Away!" gala held in the grand foyer of Wortham Theater Center. Three Moores school choral groups and the popular Seraphim Sax Quartet drew enthusiastic applause as they performed throughout the evening.
As the students sang (and played) for their supper, more than 300 well-heeled guests dined in style while pushing proceeds above $300,000. Gala chairs Nancy and Hans Strohmer winged in from their home in Florida to chair the fundraiser for the school, which they generously supported throughout their long tenure in Houston. Helping out on the Houston end was Moores Society chair Kathi Rovere, ably assisted by her husband, Bill.
Joining honorary chairs Shirley and Don Rose for the black-tie evening were Ulyesse and Barbara LeGrange, David Ashley White, Sallymoon and Dr. Alan Benz, Mary Ann and David McKeithan, Phyllis Williams, Mary Ann and Dr. Bob Wilkins, Denise Bush Bahr and Philip Bahr and Betty and Jess Tutor.
