Pocket parks, button parks, citizen nature groups — all were on the table at River Oaks Country Club when Houston Wilderness featured Richard Louv, author and co-founder of the Children and Nature Network, as keynote speaker at its annual luncheon. Think green. Think fresh air. Think the great outdoors.

Mayor Annise Parker, Louv's intrigued tablemate, joined in the program focusing her remarks on the importance of nature and the outdoor experiences in everyone's life and the city's efforts in promoting such.

The fundraiser, bringing in a whopping $300,000, spotlighted Houston Wilderness as a bridge to business, government and other conservation groups that work together to protect and promote the region’s  ecological systems and natural environments.

Leading the charge in the packed ballroom were chairs Debbie and John Daughertyco-chairs Lucinda and Javier Loya, Houston Wilderness board chair Richard Torres and luncheon emcee KPRC Channel 2 news anchor Dominique Sachse.

Inspired by Louv's faith in nature as a route to psychological, physical and spiritual well-being were Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and Gwen Emmett, Alice and Keith Mosing, Cyndy Garza Roberts, Scotty Arnoldy, Susan Hansen, Carla Knobloch, Beth Robertson, Virginia and Lee Lahourcade, Ginni Mithoff, Melinda Perrin, Veronica Curran, Kim Tutcher, Clayton Erikson and Catherine Mosbacher.
