A model idea
A supermodel is heading to Houston to help Texas Children's — and she wants youto meet her
Former supermodel Christy Turlington, now an activist and mother of two married to actor/directorEdward Burns, comes to Houston March 1 for an intimate evening supporting Texas Children's Hospital and you are invited.
With her high-life modeling career behind her, Turlington is focusing her energies on reducing maternal mortality globally. It is an effort that blends nicely with Texas Children's Global Health Initiatives and with the recent opening of Texas Children's Pavilion for Women. Proceeds from the evening will go to Texas Children's Global Maternal Health Initiative.
In conjunction with the Houston Cinema Arts Society, Turlington will be the special guest at a cocktail reception at Samba Grill, followed by screening of her documentary No Woman, No Cry at Sundance Cinemas. The theater seats only 180 and tickets for the evening are limited to that number.
Turlington's directorial debut focuses on the stories of pregnant women and their caregivers in four countries and aspires to encourage viewers to join in the efforts to improve the lives of girls and women worldwide.
Following completion of the film, Turlington founded Every Mother Counts, a non-profit dedicated to improving health conditions for mothers around the globe.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Turlington, Dr. Mark Kline, Texas Children's Physician-in-Chief, and Dr. Michael Belfort, medical director of Texas Children's Pavilion for Women and Obstetrician/Gynecologist in-Chief at Texas Children's. CultureMap editor-at-large Shelby Hodge will serve as emcee for the program.
Tickets for the evening are $250 and can be reserved at skcarrol@texaschildrens.org by calling 832-824-2669.
