Shuttered downtown coffee shop brews up new home in Montrose eatery-record bar

The Tipping Point will serve lattes and other coffee drinks at 93' Til.
A recently shuttered downtown coffee shop will soon have new life in Montrose. The Tipping Point will operate out of 93’ Til, the casual restaurant and record bar near the Menil Collection.
A combination coffee shop, sneaker store, and lifestyle boutique, proprietor David Rodriguez opened The Tipping Point in 2006 and added coffee in 2016, according to a release. That location closed at the end of December.
In the coming weeks, Rodriguez will operate The Tipping Point Coffee out of 93’ Til. In addition to various coffee drinks, Rodriguez and 93’ Til chef-owner Lung Ly have collaborated on a menu of breakfast dishes.

"It is bittersweet to end the run at our downtown location after 17-plus years. However, I am very excited to start a new chapter with 93' Til," Rodriguez said in a statement. "I have a great relationship with Lung, and I cannot wait to work on bringing coffee and breakfast to 93' Til. We will still have all of The Tipping Point Coffee's favorites and continue to serve what made The Tipping Point so unique: the coffee and the culture."
As they did downtown, The Tipping Point will continue to host various cultural events that include music collaborations. It also served as an incubator for Boo’s Burgers, the burger pop-ups that’s nominated for a CultureMap Tastemaker Award. Boo’s Burgers owner Joseph Boudreaux hosted a Fat Tuesday pop-up at 93’ Til earlier this week.
The Tipping Point will expand 93’ Til’s current offerings and make it a true all-day concept. It already serves lunch during the week, brunch on the weekends, and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
"We have been looking to add coffee for a while now but have been looking for the right partner to revive it with," Ly added. "David was the perfect match; it was a no-brainer once he contacted me about moving The Tipping Point Coffee over here."
