Torchy's Tacos suffers a Sunday meltdown: Hour-long waits as H-Town crushesonline ordering
Apparently Houstonians just can't get enough of Torchy's Tacos.
Almost two weeks after opening, the popular Austin import had a service meltdown on Sunday night, with some customers reporting nearly hour-long waits for their tacos despite a dining room that didn't appear to be overflowing.
"We have a certain amount of experience with online orders in Austin and what we've found is that people in Houston are much more likely to use it," Wald says. "We actually had to turn it off on Sunday."
Torchy's Twitter account described the problem as "simple operational issues," but also admitted "It was as ugly as sin. Sorry, y'all." Torchy's Jim Wald tells CultureMap the issue was partially due to Sunday night being the first night without the help of the training team from Austin, and partially due to an overwhelming number of online orders.
"We have a certain amount of experience with online orders in Austin and what we've found is that people in Houston are much more likely to use it," Wald says. "We actually had to turn it off on Sunday." Wald said that Torchy's doesn't anticipate any more delays.
To the restaurant's credit, customers were warned about the wait before ordering, so some people are just annoyed that their taco craving had to wait another day.
I guess when people go this crazy over missing your food, that's a good thing, right?
Have you eaten at Torchy's yet? What do you think?
