Italian via Houston: James Beard House taps Cavour's Renato DePirro for dinner
When it comes to Italian food in America, few cities have a more prestigious scene than New York. And yet as part of a dinner entitled "A Tour of Italy with Fork, Knife and Glass,” the prestigious James Beard Foundation invited Renato DePirro, executive chef of Ristorante Cavour at the Hotel Granduca to participate.
The "Tour of Italy" dinner will include six chefs from Benchmark Hospitality International hotels preparing a seven-course dinner, with each course covering a distinctive region of Italy.
The dinner will be held at the James Beard House in New York in Dec. 15, with tickets on sale for $130.
DePirro isn't the first Houston chef selected to cook in the illustrious Beard House this year. Ronnie Killen and his crew at Killen's Steakhouse in Pearland will be creating a five-course Texas dinner for the organization with master sommelier Guy Stout on December 20.
Have you tried chef DePirro's menu at Ristorante Cavour? What did you think? And what other Houston chefs should get a James Beard invite?
