- Fred Eats Houston has confirmed that the former Rare spot on Durham south of Washington Avenue will become the second outpost of Table 7 Bistro from Shelley and Babak Elham, who also own District 7 Grill. They're new outpost is scheduled for a soft opening in mid-November.
- Smashburger is continuing to weave its way into Houston with a third location opening on Town Center Blvd. in Sugar Land on November 18. It's the sixth Smashburger in the greater Houston area in under a year.
- Brennan's of Houston's Alex Brennan-Martin has named a new executive chef: Danny Trace, who comes after serving for a decade at fellow Brennan family holdings Commander's Palace and Café Adelaide, most recently as executive chef at Commander's Palace & On the Rocks Bar in Destin, Florida. After suffering a fire during Hurricane Ike in 2008, Brennan's is scheduled to reopen in January 2010.
- The new weekly Highland Village Farmer's Market debuted on Saturday, with vendors hawking everything from eggs and marshmellows to freshly-baked bread and Gulf seafood, and all 100% organic. We love the proliferation of markets around the city, but would it be so hard to have one on Sundays?
