What's Eric Eating Episode 24
Energetic trio dish on hotel dining, Sunday Supper, and other Houston restaurant news
"What's Eric Eating" always gets a jolt of energy when Shanna Jones and Felice Sloan from Urban Swank join CultureMap food editor Eric Sandler on his podcast, and this week's show is no exception.
The trio discuss the news of the week. Topics include Arizona-based wine cafe Postino's plans to open in Heights Mercantile, Fadi's Mediteranean Kitchen replacing Bosta in the Museum Distict, and the opening of Dish Society's third location in Memorial Green. Sandler and Sloan also share some thoughts on the second annual Butcher's Ball.
In the restaurant of the week segment, they discuss Lucienne, the French fine dining restaurant in the newly opened Hotel Alessandra downtown that serves a four or six-course tasting menu at dinner. Sloan offers her opinion about whether it can draw in Houstonians who have typically avoided hotel restaurants.
"You have to venture all the way into the hotel to get to the restaurant," Sloan says. "I think that's where they're going to struggle . . . I still felt like I was in a hotel restaurant."
As the conversation continues, Sloan and Sandler describe their experience at State of Grace's Sunday Supper, which offers a four-course, family-style meal for only $29 per person. To conclude, Jones and Sandler discuss Merchant, the New Orleans-based coffee shop that opened recently near the Galleria.
Due to a last minute scheduling conflict, this week's show does not include an interview segment.
