Kangaroo for lunch, anyone? Dos Equis' free food truck is back with more exoticeats
Were you brave enough to taste the scorpion mystery taco served up this spring by H-Town strEATs and Dos Equis? (I was, and I can still hear the crunch in my nightmares.)
Whether you missed the first iteration of exotic food truck fare or you're simply ready for another round, Dos Equis is back and partnering again with H-Town strEATs, delivering free lunches around Houston from Sept. 12 to 22, starting with the Houston Museum of Natural Science from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
This time the truck is not a multi-city competition for adventurous eaters, it's the Most Interesting Academy, which includes foreign food and a "corresponding cultural ritual."
In Houston, chef Jason Hill's menu is taking a trip Down Under, featuring grilled kangaroo served with apricot wattleseed chutney, barramundi fillets wrapped in a banana leaf and uni dumplings stuffed with Australian rock lobster and sea urchin.
According to the press release, grilled kangaroo is an Australian specialty that dates back to the original Aborigines, and this cultural connection will be reinforced with "Aboriginal ritual performances" that will take place at the truck as food is served.
Not sure exactly what this performance will include (sadly I think the Haka is more Polynesian/New Zealand) but here's hoping it includes a didgeridoo.
To get a taste of the free Australian fare, follow @DosEquis or @HtownStrEATs on Twitter to find out where the Mobile Academy will head next.
