Rice alum and Saint Arnold founder Brock Wagner couldn't let his alma mater's centennial pass without some serious commemoration.

As first reported by CultureMap, Wagner and company have created two new commemorative labels — one blonde and one dark — in honor of the University's 100th year and repackaged two traditional offerings, Weedwacker and Brown Ale. The profits from the repackaged Centenni-Ales will be donated to Rice.

The new brew will make its debut Saturday at the pre-Purdue game HOOTS tailgate ("HOOTS," of course, standing for High Order of Owl Tailgating Society) at 12:30 p.m.

It looks to be a big weekend for Rice: A dedicated tailgating drink and Purdue, a Big Ten team, is coming to Rice Stadium (BCS conference schools traditionally try to make Rice play them on the road). The Boilermakers are a program in transition, as well. They needed a late rally to edge Middle Tennessee State 27-24 last Saturday, and lost eight straight games to close the 2010 season. Special Rice brews and the real possibility of upsetting a BCS team? Not too shabby.

Kickoff for the game is at 2:30 p.m., and the new brews will be available begininng two hours prior at the HOOTS tent.
