Houston's Culinary Avengers: Celebrity chefs join forces for new James Bearddinner
At Brennan's James Beard tour dinner last year — the first event of its kind to take place in Texas — Jeff Black, President of the Celebrity Chef Tour Benefiting the James Beard Foundation, was so pleased with the enthusiastic turnout (the evening sold out faster than any other James Beard tour event) that he vowed the organization would be back for more.
Now he's making good on that promise. The Celebrity Chef Tour is returning to Houston this fall, set to take place at Brennan's of Houston on Sept. 27. But this time instead of combining the talents of the Brennan's family of restaurants in Houston and New Orleans, the dinner will feature five of Houston's most high-profile chefs.
It's like a culinary version of The Avengers: These chefs represent the level of excellence in Houston's food scene.
In addition to host chef Danny Trace, the six-course dinner will be prepared by Chris Shepherd of Underbelly, Hugo Ortega of Hugo's and Backstreet Café, Oxheart's Justin Yu and Philippe Schmit of Philippe Restaurant + Lounge.
It's like a culinary version of The Avengers: These chefs not only represent the level of excellence in Houston's food scene — they have a James Beard nomination, a Bon Appetit best new restaurant and a Maîtres Cuisiniers de France title between them — they also show the breadth of Houston's cuisine, from Texas Creole and French to interior Mexican and more.
Tickets to the Celebrity Chef Tour stop at Brennan's are $170 and include wine pairings, tax and gratuity, with part of the proceeds going to support the James Beard Foundation's educational programs.
