A slice of life
It's National Cheesecake Day! The Factory is half off, but there are betterHouston spots to hit
Forget presents, memorials, historical relevance or decorations — holidays are about food, period.
So excuse us if we choose to neglect the calendar-approved fests without traditional feasts (I'm talking to you, Flag Day) in favor of the holidays invented by some marketing genius.
Yes, my friends, today is a day of celebration. It is (unofficially) National Cheesecake Day.
Whether this holiday was cooked up by the folks at The Cheesecake Factory I don't know and I don't care. (Try telling your fiancée that diamond engagement rings were an invention of De Beers and see if she changes her mind about wanting one.)
Regardless, The Cheesecake Factory is celebrating by offering their 30-plus versions for half-off today (July 30) only.
Of course, if you prefer to celebrate quietly with family and friends, there are plenty of other cheesecake options in town:
- Branch Water Tavern's crème fraiche cheesecake keeps the flavors fresh, light, tart and just sweet enough.
- Kata Robata has gained a following among the cheesecake crowd for rotating flavors, from traditional strawberry and Texas peach to pumpkin and green tea.
- Katz's cheesecake shake with chocolate is so wrong (but so right!)
- And for a classic, no one beats Kenny & Ziggy's original cheesecake, though Ooh-La-La Dessert Boutique also makes a strong showing.
