CultureMap hires a vaunted new food writer as its expansion continues
CultureMap is upping its already vaunted food coverage, hiring Eric Sandler as a new staff writer as part of its continuing expansion. Sandler previously served as the editor of Eater Houston, where he built a reputation for breaking stories and having his finger on the pulse of Houston's hot food scene like few others.
"CultureMap's record-breaking performance demands that we hire the best and brightest talent, especially as we continue to expand," CultureMap CEO Alyce Alston says.
At CultureMap, Sandler will cover food and other topics, adding his expertise and drive as a key part of a versatile staff of reporters.

"Simply put, this is one of the most exciting moments in the history of Houston food," he says. "And what makes it truly unique is how the city's general sense of camaraderie is helping to propel so many great new restaurants.
"Chefs and owners all want to see each other succeed. Just look at what's happening downtown. It's something you just don't see in many other places."
A native Houstonian, Sandler is a St. John's School and University of Houston-Downtown alum. His knowledge of Houston and sources is already well established.
"Eric has an incredible knack for bringing readers the latest news and information about the city's restaurant scene," CultureMap Houston editor-in-chief Clifford Pugh says. "We are thrilled that he's joining us to help carry on our tradition of breaking stories on Houston food, arts, real estate, society, sports, city life, entertainment and fashion."
