Local food movement gets a Texas-sized party at Central Market
If Texas was a country, it would be the 10th largest country in the world, with the 12th largest economy. So it comes as no surprise that local farmers, bakers and chefs have a whole world of tasty offerings.
And through July 4, Central Market is shining a spotlight on Texas brands, with Big State Big Tastes.
Vendors like Cheesy Girl Cheese, Padrino Tamales, Texas Olive Ranch Oil, Pederson Sausage, Cooper Farms and Lola Savannah Coffee are showing off their wares, with samples of Texas favorites like peach cobbler and flan offered in the bakery, and a Farmers' Market taking place outside the store on weekends with fresh produce, recipes and ideas.
And of course, it wouldn't be a Texas party without some local wine and beer, plus Houston bands Stringbenders and Driftwood on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, from noon to 4 p.m.
