Evan Turner Returns
He's back! Popular sommelier returns to acclaimed Greek restaurants
Of all the recent staff changes at Houston restaurants, none proved more surprising than sommelier Evan Turner's sudden departure from Helen Greek Food & Wine. Ten days later, Turner has returned to the company.
“After expressing my sincere remorse to the Helen leadership following an ill-advised impulse to step down from a position I hold dear, I am delighted and relieved to announce my return to the Helen family," Turner said in a statement. "My love and passion for both restaurants proved too strong a draw for me to consider going anywhere else. Helen is where I belong.”
Whatever the circumstances, Turner's return to both Helen Greek Food & Wine in Rice Village and the recently opened Helen in the Heights is a victory for Houston's wine enthusiasts, who have embraced Turner's all-Greek wine list. With the CultureMap Tastemaker Awards Sommelier of the Year 2016 back in the fold, Helen's customers can look forward to many more glasses of Koutsoyannopoulos “Nikteri” and Santo Assyrtiko in the years to come.
