Last Chef Standing
From beer to buzzy cocktails, check out the drink pairings at Last Chef Standing
There's been a lot of talk about the 16 chefs creating dishes for the Last Chef Standing Tasting Event, taking place Monday at Hotel ZaZa. But food is just part of the deal. Each chef is also matched with a beer, wine or spirits pairing. What kind of boozy treats should you keep on your radar? We've got a quick preview.
Houston's own Saint Arnold Brewing Company is providing several beers from their line-up to complement fare from restaurants including Mockingbird Bistro, Narin's Bombay Brasserie and The Tasting Room. Saint Arnold's newest brew, Santo, will also be available at the Whole Foods Market table.
When it comes to wine, Messina Hoff is also showing off its range, with chardonnay, rosé, shiraz and a signature Texas Hold 'Em white blend being poured with dishes from Monarch, Valentino, Sullivan's and Liberty Kitchen.
Looking for something a little different? Blu Restaurant's Asian fare is being paired with a Hypnotiq champagne cocktail. Or check out Harmonie, a berry-accented liquor from Hypnotiq that's being served in a cocktail with hints of lime and mint alongside Gigi's Asian Bistro.
Staying true to their South American roots, both Samba Grille and Roots Bistro will be pairing their dishes with Houston-owned, Peruvian-made and Shakira-approved Pisco Portón. Rounding out the range of tipples is Rebecca Creek Whiskey (served, fittingly, with Ava Kitchen & Whiskey Bar) and Enchanted Rock Vodka.
All this, plus wine bar 13 Celcius will be on hand serving up something delicious and mysterious. (For now at least — you'll have to buy tickets to see what proprietor and wine guru Mike Sammons decides to pour.)
When it comes to getting your drink on, what more could you want? Except, perhaps, a cab ride home.
