KHOU CultureMap Moment
Are you ready? Big crowd expected for celebration of Houston barbecue
Are you ready for some Texas barbecue?
For this week's KHOU CultureMap Moment, KHOU's Lily Jang talks with CultureMap writer Eric Sandler, Greg Gatlin of Gatlin's BBQ and Michael Fulmer, the organizer of this weekend's 2nd Annual Houston Barbecue Festival.
Fulmer says he expects about 2,000 people at the Reliant Park event on Sunday. The festival — which runs from 1 to 5 p.m. — boasts 20 vendors, 18 of which are from the Houston area.
"It's really meant as a celebration of Houston barbecue," says Fulmer.
Among the restaurants featured are Gatlin's BBQ in Houston, Killen's Barbecue in Pearland, CorkScrew BBQ in Spring and Tin Roof BBQ & Steaks in Atascosita.
Sandler made special mention of his "absolute favorite Texas barbecue joint," Louie Mueller Barbecue from Taylor. They will be serving up the delicious beef brisket they're known for at Sunday's event.
Tickets for the event are $50 and are available for purchase online.
