Final vote for the title
The championship of the Final Four Restaurant Challenge is set: Your finalistsare ...
With a strong final surge, two restaurants are on the cusp of Houston history. In the first-ever Big Dance Restaurant Challenge, two restaurants mobilized their fan bases and are heading to the fifth and final round — essentially a one-on-one championship game round.
The finalists are The Tasting Room and Max's Wine Dive, two sibling concepts based in Houston whose dominance of the bracket recalls the heyday of Venus and Serena Williams on the tennis court or Luke and Owen Wilson at the box office.
Max's beat out hometown original Ninfa's on Navigation by 60-40 percent margin and The Tasting Room soared past luxe Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse 59-41 percent.
This round brought wild momentum swings in voting — in part because in the last 90 minutes of voting, votes were received that triggered CultureMap's fraud detection system. All votes from fraud-detected IP addresses in a round are removed — including votes from those addresses made in earlier days. Who knew a fun Restaurant Challenge could get so cutthroat?
The winner of the final round earns the right to serve food (for purchase) at The Big Dance Concert Series in Discovery Green during the extended Final Four weekend in Houston. Part of an increasing focus on college basketball's biggest event, the free concert series is bringing in big-time entertainment, including Kings of Leon on April 2.
The Restaurant Challenge champion will be decided by voters like you from now until 3 p.m. Tuesday. Three more restaurants from the final eight of the Challenge will also be selected to serve food at the Big Dance Concert Series in voting from a panel of judges on March 9.
