Between Uchi and Underbelly it seems like 2012 has already had a year's worth of significant restaurant openings, and we're barely past Leap Day.
Get ready for one more. Oxheart, the highly anticipated concept from chef/owners Justin Yu and Karen Man and general manager/sommelier Justin Vann, is opening to the public on March 15, with reservations taken starting March 13.
Oxheart is located in the pocket-sized corner space of the Erie City Iron Works building in Houston's downtown warehouse district — previously known as the original location of Latin Bites.
As previously reported, Oxheart will serve dinner only and will focus on tasting menus: A four-course offering with meats, fish and vegetables, a vegetarian four-course menu and a seven-course tasting menu that's a combination of both. Yu's menu will also focus on local ingredients and sources, and the commitment to keeping local goes beyond the edible elements.
"Oxheart literally has been hand-crafted; with tables made of reclaimed wood, plates formed by a local potter, and special table knives forged in the Heights," adds the press release.
Ruminating on the opening experience on the Oxheart blog, Yu writes:
It’s true, restaurants really are like living, breathing beings. Oxheart has taken a shape that I couldn’t have ever imagined and definitely not like the perfect restaurant that I had in my head. But just like many things, its imperfections make it human, and it’s those little imperfections that I’ve come to really love."
