Chicago Pizza In H-Town
World famous Chicago pizza institution doubles up with second Houston restaurant: But will the snobs come?
Gino's East — one of Chicago's most famous deep dish pizza institutions — is expanding its reach in the Houston area.
Sure, the Chicago-based pizza chain has been in greater Houston since December, when a location opened in Spring by The Woodlands, but the Willowbrook location that just opened Thursday is the first with a Houston street address.
That may not satisfy the deep dish craving for snobs who refuse to leave the Loop, but it's a welcome addition for residents of Cypress, Champions and Tomball. As with the first Houston area location, the classic menu of Chicago favorites has been supplemented with a few dishes like the BBQ Brisket Za that are designed to appeal to Texans.
For now, Houstonians are the only Texans who have Gino's of their own.
First-time visitors should strongly consider the Chicago Fire, which is topped with a layer of spicy sausage and a few jalapenos. Starters like deep dish nachos and mozzarella sticks help pass the time while the deep dish pies bake.
Both locations are offering another way to beat the wait. The Spring location will introduce delivery on April 1, and the Willowbrook location will follow suit May 1.
Plans remain in the works to bring four locations to San Antonio, Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth by the end of the year, but, for now, Houstonians are the only Texans who have Gino's of their own.
