Twitter fight
Vegetarian jihad takes down Taco Bell's controversial Super Bowl ad: Carrots kick beef's behind
It's official: People have too much time on their hands.
Taco Bell has surrendered to a vegetarian jihad in response to its latest anti-carrot-and-friends Super Bowl themed commercial.
The ad, which shows a woman joining a game day gathering carrying a pre-packed plastic container of raw plant consumables when a voiceover states that bringing vegetables is a "cop-out and secretly, people kind of hate you for it," has been pulled after a health advocacy organization exerted pressure and roused a veggie army to tweet their complaints on Twitter.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest took offense to the attack of vegetables, but later praised Taco Bell's swift action in taking down such food hate speech.
I would hex you and your offspring for offering an uninspired, off-the-shelve, environmentally unfriendly box of crudites.
"We are delighted that Taco Bell is pulling an ad that urged people not to bring veggie trays to their Super Bowl parties, but to instead bring 12-packs of Taco Bell's tacos," nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan wrote in a statement.
What's pathetic is that CSPI and its plant-worshiping militia give too much credit to a promotion that's too humorous to be taken seriously. Their effort focuses on a segment of the market that probably isn't concerned about strange ingredients in their fast food — because it's fast food.
Furthermore, on a day that registers the highest number of domestic abuse complaints in the city (according to Crisis Intervention of Houston), does anyone really want to run the risk of pissing someone off? Because people are bitchy when they go hungry.
I am all for raw veggies, but on a day that many allow themselves to indulge, I would hex you and your offspring for offering an uninspired, off-the-shelve, environmentally unfriendly box of crudités.
Here are some better suggestions: Veggie enchiladas, vegetarian chili, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, chips and salsa, spinach artichoke dip, hummus and guacamole.
