Wilchester: Youthful energy meets affordability in the Memorial area
There are so many great places to live in Houston that it helps to have an expert on your side. The Wilchester neighborhood is located in the wooded Memorial area south of I-10/Katy Freeway and north of Buffalo Bayou; the subdivision was actually developed from a forest of native oaks and pines.
“Wilchester is one of the best areas for young families who want great value and great schools,” says Tristan Broussard.
With more than 10 years of experience in the real estate industry, Broussard has become intimately familiar with Houston's most popular urban neighborhoods and each of their different cultures.
“Each homeowner has membership in Wilchester Club, which owns and maintains pools, a park, and tennis facilities,” Broussard adds.
He also loves the community feel. It’s one of the reasons he and his wife decided to open a children’s and maternity store — Sunny ‘N Sage — in nearby Memorial West
Broussard offered up a few of his personal favorites about life in Wilchester. Here's his guide:
Where to eat & drink
Bistro 555 is the result of five French restaurateurs teaming up to create a charming little eatery and it has been a neighborhood favorite since its opening in 2000. “They have amazing French cuisine and a great wine list,” says Broussard.
Where to play
Broussard recommends Wilchester Park for its large open space, playgrounds, and tennis courts.
Buffalo Bayou and Terry Hershey Park also provide a natural setting for walking, biking, and nature studies.
Where to live
Wilchester features mainly traditional, 1960s-era brick homes with good-sized lots.
