Trader Joe's opts ITL
After weeks of rumors, it's official: Trader Joe's plans store in the oldAlabama Theatre
It's stood empty for months, but the historic Alabama Theatre on Shepherd Drive may soon have a new tenant in Trader Joe's, the popular health food store that's expanding to Houston.
The renderings, attached to an official proposal for the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission, which will have to approve any changes made to the historic structure, offer little in the way of preview. No interiors are included, and no exterior changes are illustrated outside of a "Trader Joe's" sign superimposed on the theater. The documents were first reported by the Houston Chronicle.
The commission will review the application on Thursday.
The intersection of the shopping center at Shepherd and West Alabama, which also includes Whole Earth, Zake Sushi, and PetsMart, is one of Shepherd's busiest, and a new grocer may cause parking concerns.
