Fashion buzz builds: Scouting out locations for Houston's new H&M store
The fashionably frugal of Houston are in a tizzy over the CultureMap-broken news that H&M is planning a Houston store to follow the Dallas one that just opened this week.
We expect big things from the Houston iteration, including a central location, multiple floors and, knowing this city, space for special events. We know our sprawling city can be a bit overwhelming, so we're offering our scouting services to hurry the new store along.
Below are our top five locales for the Houston H&M:
3025 Kirby Dr. — The two-story location of the soon-to-be defunct West Alabama Borders would be the ideal location for a Houston-area H&M. It's central, surrounded by the posh restaurants and retail of Upper Kirby and has enough space to go Texas-big.
1007 Prairie St. — This retail and loft space at the corner of Main and Prairie streets downtown was the assumed location of Freetail Brewing's new downtown brewpub before that deal fell through. Beer nerds were bummed out, but maybe the space can be salvaged with cutting-edge fashion at reasonable prices.
Houston Pavilions — There's already a Forever XXI in the house, why not make the Pavilions into a bargain for-the-weekend shopping destination with the addition of an H&M? We could add a Zara, too!
Las Alamedas — Since the restaurant and cantina moved to Cinco Ranch, there's a space open with all the amenities a Houston fashion destination would need: Plenty of parking; tiered flooring for unique displays; and a long banquet room for private showings and fashion shows.
The Astrodome — If there were any preservationist cause Houstonians could get behind, it would be converting the dome into a fashion temple.
