Prime Heights property makes way for midrise apartments with downtown views
Elan Heights, a 10-story midrise with 327 units, will occupy a prime site at the Taylor Street bridge near Woodland Heights where the aging Skyline Central apartments once stood.
Designed by Meeks + Partners, the new complex at 2222 White Oak Dr. will include seven floors of units, with three stories of parking below on the 1.84-acre lot. The project will feature an 80/20 unit mix of one and two bedrooms, including several one bedroom units complete with one and half-baths. The apartments range from 629 to 1,452 square feet; prices begin at about $1,700 to more than $3,000.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for August, with construction expected to be complete in late 2015. Greystar, a Charleston, S.C.-based apartment developer, is handling the project. It bought the 54-year-old Skyline Central property last year and had tenants vacate in April to allow demolition to begin.
It is the latest near-downtown property to make way for newly-constructed upscale rentals. Among the projects is Jefferson Heights, a seven-story, 198 residential-unit community to be built at 2018 N. Memorial Dr. with completion by fall 2015.
