426 Euclid
It's an appealing bungalow that has much potential particularly for buyers with the ability to see beyond the current owners' furnishings, which don't necessarily speak to the charming esthetics of the house.
Walk through: Up the sidewalk we go past the towering holly trees to the little wrap-around porch where a rocking chair and suspended swing beckon. On entering, as was tradition around 1915 or so when the house was built, we are standing in the living room where tracer windows with original glass (love the character of the wavy glass), a wood-burning fireplace and adjacent built-in bookcases set the stage for this warm and inviting dwelling.
The living room opens to the dining room which leads to the enlarged and completely renovated kitchen, part of a major redo completed seven years ago.
With that expansion, the owner transformed the two ground level bedrooms into one guest bedroom, a full bath and family room at the rear of the house. The attic was opened to allow for the master, a second bedroom, two full baths and laundry closet.
The back porch off of the kitchen and family room leads to a small yard and the free-standing, single-car garage. The typical 5,000-square-foot lots in this tree-shrouded neighborhood don't have alley access making the single-car garage something of a necessity.
Bonus: For families with young children, this house is within walking distance, just a few blocks, from Travis Elementary, the public school of choice for discerning parents living in the Woodland Heights.
Streetscape: It's a great looking block of Euclid with nicely refurbished houses, rich gardens and bountiful oak trees. In fact, the entire neighborhood is quite charming with the abundance of trees and carefully-maintained older homes. The only problem house in this particular block appears to be the one next door to our little bungalow. However, as this is a neighborhood in transition, one could expect that the offending property will not be there for long.
