No. 1 Money Town: This Houston community tops the list of the richest zip codes in Texas
By analyzing U.S. Census data from the American Community Survey, the Chronicle determined the Top 10 wealthiest zip codes in the state of Texas. The rankings are based on average income — adjusted for inflation — from 2008 to 2012 American Community Survey five-year estimates.
Houston's own West University (77005) topped the wealthiest Texas zip code list with an average household income of $240,151.
Three other Houston area zip codes were featured on the list including Bellaire (77401) at No. 6 with an average household income of $202,735, the Katy area/Energy Corridor (77094) at No. 8 with an average household income of $199,805, and the Memorial area (77024) at No. 9 with an average household income of $197,090.
Houston's own West University (77005) topped the wealthiest Texas zip code list with an average household income of $240,151.
The Houston area's actual No. 1 wealthiest zip code is 77010 in downtown with an average income of $297,695, but the area was omitted from the list as it did not represent a residential area.
Other top Texas zip codes included University Park (75225) at No. 2 with an average household income of $224,787 and Southlake (76092) at No. 3 with an average household income of $222,655, both located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan statistical area. In total, four Dallas area area zip codes were featured on the list, including Highland Park (75205) at No. 5 and Colleyville (76034) at No. 7.
San Antonio (78257) came in at No. 4 and Austin's West Lake Hills area (78746) rounded out the list at No. 10.
