After the latest bout of outages, isn't it time to blackball the BlackBerry?
Aside from saying we told you so, we think it's time to read the writing on the wall, BlackBerry holdouts.
For four days — yup, count 'em, four — BlackBerry suckers, err, users all over the globe were cut off from their digital worlds. Services floundered while millions of suits wandered aimlessly through corporate America and beyond without precious email and Internet capabilities.
A comedy of errors (that only iPhone and Android users found funny) lead to the network's demise. Both an integral link in BlackBerry's European network as well as a backup stopped functioning properly on Monday, leading to the demise of service in the Middle East, Africa, India, parts of South America and Europe.
Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturers of BlackBerry, have confirmed as of Thursday that the struggling service has been brought back up to speed — but that doesn't mean everything is back to normal. "Normal" might take a few more days.
No biggie, right?
In the meantime, outages of BlackBerry proportions are pretty much impossible when you have a iPhone or Android-powered device. Blame it on the RIM — it acts as the middleman for delivering texts and email to BlackBerry devices. iPhones and Android cell phones don't have such a barrier to data entry.
Hell yeah, we iPhone users are smug.
Look. This isn't the first time (or the second or third), and it won't be the last time the BlackBerry goes splat.
Take it from us. Put down the CrackBerry — and upgrade to the 21st century — before it's too late to save you.
