New Houston Microsoft store counters Apple buzz with free Kelly Clarksonconcert: But will it backfire?
Remember Kelly Clarkson? She was the inaugural American Idol winner, and she's popping by Houston's Galleria as part of an opening celebration of the Microsoft Store.
The technology atelier officially opens on June 23 at 10 a.m. preceded by a 9:30 a.m. address by Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner. Those hoping for a Clarkson serenade should arrive early to that event, during which tickets to her June 25, 3 p.m. performance will be doled out. The first 100 attendees at the June 23 opening will also receive VIP passes to meet the Fort Worth-native pop star after her show.
To further personalize the store opening and compete with the buzz that Apple stores routinely get, Microsoft is donating $1 million in software subsidies to Houston-area organizations. If non-profit standoffs are your thing, cast a vote for your preferred organization at the Galleria Microsoft store's Facebook page(which, incidentally, requires releasing your Facebook security settings).
The contestants include the Houston Independent School District Foundation; Neighborhood Centers Inc., which brings resources to emerging neighborhoods; Reasoning Mind, which aspires to bring first-rate math education through an online community; and WeCAN, an organization that makes broadband Internet and computer access available in high-need neighborhoods.
Are you excited about Kelly Clarkson coming to the Microsoft Store? Will you watch Clarkson's performance from the Galleria ice rink? Or will you stay at home and watch From Justin to Kelly?
