Pillows that will make you laugh out loud: Luxury gets playfully scenic atKuhl-Linscomb
We all remember that famous cinematic scene from King Kong when (insert favorite leading lady here) screams as the giant ape attempts to take her to safety atop the Empire State Building. I saw that iconic moment again the other day, in a totally different medium, and I laughed out loud.
Yes, out loud, and I was in Building 3 at Kuhl-Linscomb, just one of five enormous showrooms at the fab-find mega-complex on Upper Kirby.
May I suggest the Houston skyline as a future endeavor?
The whimsical detail is cleverly stitched onto one of Charlene Mullen’s hand-embroidered luxury “Scenic Series” cushions. The New York Day cityscape stretches across a sturdy, white linen tapestry pillow with buildings defined in a multitude of intricate, beautiful geometric patterns. The playful black-and-white design gets even more quirky with “New Yorker” in red thread and a speeding cab and floating barge in yellow.
Too. Much. Fun.
Kuhl-Linscomb also carries Mullen’s similar creations including “Paris Calling,” a cushion featuring the Paris skyline complete with Bastille Day fireworks popping next to the Eiffel Tower. Then there’s “London Calling” and “Tower Bridge.” The exquisite artistry and delightful humor continue.
In addition to offering the collection, Mullen provides a commissioning service working with private clients, interior designers and architects. May I suggest the Houston skyline as a future endeavor?
I think so, possibly with "Texans" spelled out in yellow lights from the windows of our Three Allen Center and Heritage Plaza skyscrapers. Or the city’s B-Bikes being pedaled about town? Or Discovery Green in, well, green?
I. Love. It.
And I know I would laugh out loud — again.
