Draped trees, anyone?
IKEA's Random Acts of Brightness Tour covers Houston in fab fabrics
Houston’s looking a lot brighter these days, and it’s not just because the rain clouds are clearing from our skies.
You'll see exactly what I mean by visiting the Houston Zoo through Sunday, where IKEA Houston's next Random Acts of Brightness Tour textile installation appears with happily dressed trees draped above to create a picnic-friendly area around the Reflection Pool. The tour is designed to make our lives more colorful, comfortable and even a bit more interesting, and also celebrates the release of IKEA’s 2013 catalog, Love for Textiles.

“The 2013 IKEA catalog is all about inspiration, so we really wanted to do something to get people excited and spark creativity,” says Kim Castillo, marketing manager for IKEA Houston.
Event-goers to the Discovery Green Flea by Night concert last weekend were the first to be treated to the Random Acts of Brightness Tour with complimentary shopping bags and an eye-catching, all-textiles centerpiece at the Brown Promenade. Miller Outdoor Theater surprises came next at the Tuesday screening of Casablanca, when IKEA Houston employees added color-punch pillows to the 1,700 seats and blanketed the iconic hill with lively fabrics.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is the tour’s final stop, where IKEA is partnering with the museum for a promotional display prior to the launch of the MFAH Mixed Media party series on Friday. The first 100 party-goers will receive a complimentary tote created by local designer Ali Rapp using all IKEA textiles.
“Through this series of installations, we hope to create something fun and beautiful for Houstonians to enjoy, while also illustrating the powerful effect textiles can have on a space, whether it’s a park, museum or home,” Castillo says.
