NEW YORK — New Zealand-born designer Rebecca Taylor always has her target customer in mind: Young, feminine-with-an-edge, and fun. Her spring 2014 collection has plenty of options for the cool girls to wear (Girl's co-star Zosia Mamet was on the front row of the runway show), with looks that combine athletic styles with flirty touches.
Taylor, who is known for a "feminine tomboy aesthetic," features low-slung trousers that resemble upscale track pants, bonded mesh hoodies and bomber jackets of rubberized terrycloth fabric. She also showcases one of spring's hottest trends — perforated leather — in "waffle" blazers, bombers, T-shirts and dresses.
But if that sounds all too high-tech, Taylor adds lace touches to vests, cropped jackets and tunics. Dresses and pantsuits in a blurry floral pattern and a pink leather bomber vest adorned with roses also soften up the hard edges.
Taylor rounds out the collection with a number of "summer white" looks — poplin dresses, cropped sweaters and pleated skirts — that never go out of style, and boyfriend blazers galore.
Taylor will show her spring 2014 collection at Fashion Houston on Wednesday (Nov. 13) at the Wortham Center. Earlier that day, she will make a personal appearance at the Neiman Marcus Galleria store from 1-3 p.m.
