Kicking the NFL's new handbag rules to the curb: This $2,000 alligator clutch meets regulations
How the fashionistas howled when the National Football League announced last summer that high-style totes, backpacks and even pricey Hermes birkins would be banned from the stadiums with the first kickoff of the 2013 season. Never mind that the NFL declared the stringent rules a matter of public safety, what about personal style?
Houston-based luxury handbag and accessories designer Alexandra Knight to the rescue with her crossbody clutch that meets the NFL annoying regulations. Unless you go for a plastic see-through tote, 12 inches by 12 inches, or carry a one-gallon clear freezer bag, your handbag options have been seriously limited. A small clutch bag 6.5 inches by 4.5 inches is as large as is acceptable.
"Because a plastic bag is never chic," the email posting on the new option reads, "we've redesigned our small crossbody to fit the new NFL regulations."
Inspiration for the gridiron-acceptable bag came from Knight's regular customers, who clamored for something fashionable to carry to the games. She scaled down one of her popular clutches and added a detachable shoulder strap, matching wristbands available on request.
These beauties are not for the feint of heart or those light on discretionary income. The bags start at $1,150 in lizard and go as high as $1,995 in alligator. The little gems are special order and can be requested in a variety of colors and skins.
