Angel Sanchez gets back to his roots with romantic evening wear and a more relaxed attitude
After taking a break from showing at New York Fashion Week last season, Venezuelan designer Angel Sanchez returned with a small but lovely collection of evening wear for spring/summer 2018 that emphasizes the notion of beauty and romance.
Although Sanchez maintains a showroom in New York, where he unveiled the collection to an appreciative audience, he now spends most of his time in Miami to be closer to his Latin American customers. He also chose to present his most recent bridal collection in Barcelona. The change in locales seems to have rubbed off on the designer, as his creations are much lighter and brighter, with a glam attitude for the women who wants to be noticed.
The 17-piece collection still has the clean structural look that Sanchez, an architect by training, is known for, but it has a more relaxed attitude. Playing off the theme of the sun and the moon, Sanchez showed a number of ball gowns in midnight blue and in bright yellow — Sanchez labels the color "citrus" — with 3D floral detail, cascading paillettes, or ruffles at the neck and waist.
Many of the looks are backless yet are covered in mesh with tiny buttons that add a note of sophistication and make such gowns look just as interesting from the back as from the front.
Sanchez also offers a couple of terrific nighttime looks for the woman who would rather wear pants than a gown. A jumpsuit incorporating an off-white ruffled blouse and black high-waist trousers looks like a chic two-piece outfit while a black sequined jumpsuit with plunging V-neck and white trousers with ruffles at the waist makes a fashion statement.
And his opening look, an off-white organza blouse with two streaming panels has an angelic look for the woman who wants to have a devilish good time.
The Angel Sanchez collection is available in Houston at Elizabeth Anthony.
