For anyone who can’t sew, doesn’t have a grandma handy or can’t afford a tailor (after gleefully overpaying for designer jeans that are made for women with legs longer than Mrs. Yao and a waist tinier than Dita Von Teese): Meet your new best friend.
Hem Gems are small pins that look like the rivets you would find on ordinary jeans (you can also opt for a more flashy pyramid stud) that allow you to pin your jeans to a shorter length while keeping the original hem. The brilliant little buggers make you your own tailor, able to hem jeans in less than five minutes and easily reverse your handiwork when you'd rather wear heels.
Besides being perfect for temporarily altering your favorite skinny jeans for flats, you suddenly get to look as though you own 30 pairs of designer jeans when you really only own six (or seven, or eight, or nine …).
My only complaint? I wish they were uber-powerful little magnets instead of puncture-making pins. But no love lost; now I can justify my next spontaneous shoe purchase.
Rachel Zoe, are you there? These are buh-nanas.
